António Rafael
Counsel
António Rafael is an of counsel and has been at JBA Advogados, working primarily in Tax Law matters.
He has particular experience in acquisitions of equity interests, mergers, demergers, asset contributions and share swaps, with a particular focus on international taxation and financing transactions, including project finance.He has extensive experience in tax litigation, having handled a number of proceedings relating to double taxation, transfer pricing and local taxes, with particular emphasis on the Angolan jurisdiction.
He also advises family-owned groups on tax planning, asset structuring and the intergenerational transfer of wealth.
He has extensive transactional advisory experience across a range of sectors, including healthcare, telecommunications, automotive, ports, financial services and real estate, as well as in Corporate, Tax and Customs Law and matters relating to Religious Law. He has been involved in some of the most significant restructuring transactions involving major companies in Angola.
He regularly advises on investment transactions in Angola, Mozambique, Guinea-Bissau, Malta, the United Arab Emirates and Brazil.
He is a Board Member of the Angolan Tax Association and Angola’s representative at the Lusophone Alliance for Religious Freedom.
He is also the National Representative for Angola on the Young Lawyers' Committee of the International Bar Association (IBA) for the 2026–2027 term.
He is currently a Visiting Scholar at Université Sorbonne Paris Nord.
